Barn Conversion - Taylors Farm, Lathom

Craftsmans Projects Limited have won a much coveted special commendation award from the Federation of Master Builders for their work in transforming Taylors Farm at Lathom.  Having transformed a derelict barn to make a stunning farm shop that hosts a high class butchery and a produce and delicatessen shop.

The conversion of the completely derelict barn structure, governed under strict planning and conservation rules whilst being in a conservation area, according to owner Roger Webster, has transformed their farming operation into a real customer  attraction.

The finished project was good enough to win a special commendation award from the Federation of Master Builders in the 10th year of their Master Builder of the Year Awards.

And on November 29th Mrs Frances Shaw, the FMB North West Regional  Director, was at Taylor’s Farm to present Craftsmans Projects Ltd with their Award. Mrs Shaw said: "Mr and Mrs Webster realised that they had outgrown their existing farm shop and decided to extend and convert a  derelict and dilapidated adjacent agricultural stone building to meet the needs of the 1500 customers passing through their shop each week, and also to sustain the viability of the farm supporting a fourth  generation. Having never embarked on a project of such magnitude before, Mr and Mrs Webster needed to be confident in the capabilities of their builder.

Being in a conservation area, the challenge to their builder, Craftsmans Projects Ltd, was that the new farm shop had to resemble a barn and blend in with the existing farmhouse and buildings and, more importantly, it had to be ready by Christmas! Stephen, Stuart and Phillip at Craftsmans Projects met these challenges and achieved both the integration of the old and new to create a fantastic work  environment, delivered on time, despite some of the worst summer weather for years."

“The Master Builder of the Year Awards give customers a chance to thank their builder for a job well done. There are plenty of great builders out there, but all too often we only hear of stories where things have gone wrong."

“As Craftsmans Projects Ltd have demonstrated, the reality is that the majority of builders are extremely skilled, hardworking and friendly and prove that building work in the north west surpasses the rest."

Craftsmans Managing Director Stephen Carter said: “Working on a project like this was not only challenging it was also highly satisfying."

“Our job was to sympathetically develop a derelict building, add to it considerably in a style that was sympathetic with the other buildings and the setting of the farm at a significant road junction, and I am very proud of what we have achieved for Roger and Bernadette."
